Released Titans defensive lineman Jordan Elliott attempted to retrieve a firearm from his vehicle following a dispute with a teammate last Thursday, leading to the team cutting him Tuesday, according to reports and confirmed by NFL Network .
The Titans only acknowledged an “incident” at the team facility Oct. 15 in their statement regarding their decision to cut the 28-year-old, who was inactive for the Week 6 win over the Colts.
Elliott, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the team in free agency, had a confrontation with offensive lineman JC Latham during practice Thursday, according to KPRC2 in Houston .
The seventh-year veteran would be told to leave, and he reportedly took off his pads on the sidelines and left the team’s training facility to head to his car.
A to Z Sports further reported that Elliott stormed out of the locker room upset .
Security cameras captured Elliott going to his car in an attempt to grab his gun, per KPRC2, before teammate John Franklin-Myers dissuaded him from doing any further.
NFL Network reported that the gun never left the parking spot, and that league rules prohibit players from having guns at team or league complexes.
A source told KPRC2 that Elliott has been dealing with family issues that carried over into the workplace, and the Metro Nashville Police Department told A to Z Sports that no incident report had been filed.
“This was so crazy,” an NFL source said told KPRC2. “Jordan has been having a lot of problems away from the building and obviously he brought it to work with him. There was no reason for him to go off like that. Everyone thought that was wild. To overreact like that is absolutely crazy.
“We’re just glad that no one got hurt and it’s over.”
Elliott practiced Wednesday and Thursday with no injury designation before not practicing Friday due to what the team labeled as non-injury related/personal reason.
Coach Robert Saleh said last Friday that Elliott “was dealing with some personal stuff,” and the team made the lineman one of their inactives for the game.
Elliott, who followed Saleh from the 49ers to the Titans, had appeared in each of the previous five games, starting one while logging 11 combined tackles.
His career began with four seasons with the Browns after being selected in the third round of the 2020 Draft before two seasons with San Francisco.
The nature of his Titans release certainly raises questions about his NFL future.
